Krungsri and the SDG2030

Krungsri aspires ‘To be a leading regional financial institution with global reach’ through sustainable growth and social responsibility, while responding to customer needs. The Bank, thus, adheres to best practices of good corporate governance and sustainable banking, thereby striving to achieve the ‘Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)’ initiated by the United Nations within a period of 15 years from 2015-2030. The Bank establishes strategies, targets, action plans, and projects that are corresponding to and in line with the SDGs as follows:

Promoted equity and inclusion in financial services—especially for grassroots people such as nanofinance and microfinance

Ensured good health and access to quality health care, and promoting well-being of employees and communities, such as:
- Employees: Provision of general health insurance and annual check-up, provision of ‘Krungsri Clinic’ with physicians available for initial treatments, arrangement of influenza vaccinations, provision of the COVID-19 health insurance policy, and support COVID-19 vaccinations
- Communities: Arrangement for mobile mammography units to offer health consultation and breast cancer examinations to female members of the public, and provision of online media to enhance knowledge of the breast self-exam through the Thanyarak Breast Centre, Breast Foundation Under the Patronage of HRH the Princess Mother

Promoted quality education as well as equity and inclusion in learning opportunities through diverse initiatives and activities:
- Initiated the ‘Krungsri Financial Literacy’ project to share financial knowledge and create financial discipline among students in primary schools (fourth and sixth graders). In 2021, Krungsri, supported by the Bank of Thailand, the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC) and the Equitable Education Fund (EEF), launched two new episodes of the online edutainment animated series titled ‘Simple to Learn -- Stay Safe During COVID-19’ which was first introduced in 2020. The first and second of new episodes are ‘Let’s Get to Know Commercial Banks and the Central Bank’ and ‘Following the Journey of Banknotes’, respectively, which are aimed to share the knowledge regarding duties of commercial banks and the central bank, as well as the process of banknote production.
- Provided knowledge and skills needed for sustainable development, e.g., joining hands with the Stock Exchange of Thailand to promote financial literacy among staff through the ‘Happy Money’ project, holding a financial literacy seminar titled ‘Plan Your Money’ for university students and staff of corporations, and Ngern Tid Lor’s ‘Life Rolls Forward Project’ which provides financial knowledge and business planning skills for retail vendors
- Promoted the improvement of educational institutions, provided them educational equipment and materials, as well as safe learning environment, such as providing learning equipment for underprivileged school students in rural areas and the Krungsri Auto Library project.

Promoted gender equality, as well as a greater role of female leadership and their access to financial services
- Promoted the role of women and offered them equal treatments to assume a leadership role at every level of the organization such as the Chief Financial Officer, the Head of Internal Audit Group, the Head of SME Banking Group, the Head of Digital Innovation and Data Group, etc.
- Offered equal opportunities to women to access financial services such as the gender bond issuance
- Promoted gender equality and women empowerment in the workplace, communities, and society by signing statement of support for the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) established by UN Global Compact and UN Women

Promoted sustainable water management:
- Jointly protected and restored the ecosystem of water resources, mountain, forest, wetland, river, etc., through CSR activities, such as check-damn building in many areas
- Enhanced water use efficiency in the organization to promote the most efficient usage of natural resources and reduce the risk of water scarcity, such as reusing treated wastewater

Promoted the expansion and upgrade of clean energy infrastructure and technology which help drive the economy and society, while sustainably conserving the environment:
- Provided green energy loans to increase the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix, as well as sustainability-linked loans
- Facilitated the issuance of ESG bonds, green bonds, social bonds, sustainability bonds, and sustainability-linked bonds by both private and public sectors to promote environmental investments along with economic development

Promoted economic growth with continuity, inclusion, and sustainable development, as well as decent work for all:
- Facilitated networking and expansion of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through financial access, such as loans for SMEs and micro SMEs, etc.
- Provided financial technology and innovations to enhance economic efficiency, and to improve access to banking, insurance and financial products for people from all walks of life
- Promoted investments in businesses with gender equality in work
- Promoted and protected labor and human rights and provided safe and secure workplaces for all employees in compliance with applicable regulatory requirements

Promoted the development of inclusive and sustainable infrastructure, industries, and innovation by taking following actions:
- Supported investments that enhance infrastructure and industries for sustainability, e.g., extending loans to businesses driven by environmentally-friendly technology
- Promoted innovation and digitalization within the organization by establishing the ‘Digital Innovation and Data Group’ under the Information and Digital which is responsible for developing and managing technology and digital projects, digital solutions, digital banking, and other related innovations that support product and service delivery with utmost efficiency, while also boosting staff productivity. The Business Transformation Division was also established for business transformation toward the digital era, and efficiency and competitiveness enhancement.
- Developed innovations and utilized digital technology for customer convenience in accessing products and services, e.g., ‘Krungsri Mobile Application’ (KMA), a safe and efficient mobile banking platform that makes life simple; ‘Kept’ Application, an online savings account that makes savings easy; and ‘Krungsri Mung-Mee SHOP’ Application which has been developed to especially serve needs of merchants as it supports bill payments made from mobile banking applications of all banks.
- Promoted access to data technology, communication, and the internet by donating computers to schools in remote areas

Promoted equal opportunity and economic inclusion, and reduced inequality by introducing financial products and services to address inequality regardless of age, gender, physical disabilities, financial status, ethnicity, etc., including the issuance of gender bond and offering account opening service to visually impaired people

Promoted sustainable and resilient cities and communities through activities as follows:
- Promoted protection and restoration of national and global heritage sites, such as the Ayutthaya Historical Site Conservation Project held in the province’s historical sites and the Ayutthaya Historical Park which was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site; other conservation activities at temples and religious places via annual Kathin and off-season robe presentation ceremonies of Krungsri Group

Promoted sustainable production and consumption by conducting waste sorting, reduction, and reuse activities such as:
- Conducted waste sorting and reduction, and promoted reuse activities such as ‘Krungsri Zero Waste’; ‘Care the Bear’ which was carried out in collaboration with the Stock Exchange of Thailand to reduce waste and emissions from events organized; ‘Thais Say No to E-Waste’ which was carried out in collaboration with Advanced Info Service (AIS) for the proper disposal of e-waste and pollution control; the installation of food waste disposal machine at Krungsri Head Office; the Shred2Share project, in collaboration with Iron Mountain (Thailand) Co., Ltd., for data safety and environmental conservation, etc.
- Supported employee engagement in energy and resource efficiency, waste management in the organization to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through the ‘Krungsri…The Green Office’ under the Green Office Project of the Department of Environmental Quality Promotion the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment

Participated in climate action and coped with climate change impacts through following actions:
- Raised awareness among the Bank’s employees regarding the environmental problem and climate change through training and activities, e.g., the Zero Waste training course
- Communicated about, supported, and promoted employee awareness and engagement in ultimate energy and resource efficiency to help mitigate environmental impacts and greenhouse gases
- Reduced climate change impacts by formulating a plan to reduce carbon footprint within the organization and establishing targets to reduce greenhouse gas emission at the organization
- Jointly found the Carbon Markets Club to support, promote, and enhance carbon credit trading in Thailand in both organization and individual levels toward a net zero society

Promoted the preservation of marine ecosystems by organizing mangrove planting activities in Chon Buri and Chachoengsao

Promoted and organized tree planting activities to restore land ecosystems such as the Care the Wild ‘Plant & Protect’, a collaborative project jointly held with the Stock Exchange of Thailand and the Royal Forest Department at the Baan Khao Hua Kon community forest, Ratchaburi; the Ban Putoom community forest, Petchburi; a joint effort with PTT PCL. and partnership networks to develop the green area under the ‘Our Khung Bangkachao’ project in Samut Prakan; the tree planting project at Khao Mai Kaew in Chon Buri, etc.

Promoted justice and strong institutions and society with responsible practices for sustainable development:
- Adhered to the good corporate governance and anti-corruption practices, and was certified as a member of Thailand’s Private Sector Collective Action Coalition against Corruption (CAC)
- Operated the business according to the sustainable banking principle by taking into consideration the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects
- Declared Human Rights Policy Disclosure Statement
- Promoted the policy on impartial treatments such as promotion of diversity in the organization and supply chain regardless of race, nationality, religion, gender, etc.
- Disclosed both financial and sustainability performance via Krungsri’s multiple channels to showcase responsibility and transparency in our business operation

Promoted national and regional partnerships to achieve sustainable development at home and abroad:
- Joined the membership and promoted the establishment of sustainable development networks, such as becoming a member of the Thai Bankers’ Association, the Association of International Banks, the Carbon Market Club, etc.
- Signed the statement of intent to adopt the Principles for Responsible Banking (PRB) and the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) initiated by UNEP FI and UN Global Compact reflecting Krungsri’s determination to conduct business by following responsible banking and investment guidelines
- Engaged with stakeholders, communities, and society through various activities and projects to achieve sustainable development goals domestically and internationally
