Krungsri expedites rollout of additional proactive measures to extend comprehensive assistance to SMEs affected by new wave of COVID-19

Bangkok (27 January 2021) – Krungsri (Bank of Ayudhya PCL) accelerates the rollout of relief measures to alleviate impacts on SME customers in medium-sized enterprises (Medium SME), small-sized enterprises (Small SME), and retail enterprises (Retail SME) affected by the new wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Among proactive approaches was the appointment of an ad-hoc team of relationship managers to maintain regular contacts with the Bank’s customers to stay abreast of the latest developments and provide them with various assistance measures. Several relief programs included the debt restructuring program, the soft loan scheme offered by the Bank of Thailand (BOT), and the soft loan program for the restoration of the Thai tourism by the Government Savings Bank (GSB). All measures are launched to assist customers through the crisis, and reinforce the Krungsri’s commitment to be the main operating bank for SMEs as well as its preparedness to support customers in all circumstances.

Ms. Duangkamol Limpuangthip, Krungsri Head of SME Banking Group, states that “Since the beginning of 2020, the COVID-19 crisis impacted Thai businesses across the economy, including SMEs, which were among key segments closely monitored by Krungsri. Since the early period of pandemic in 2020, the Bank has continuously contacted SME customers to truly understand the magnitude of challenges they faced and provided them with suitable relief schemes of the Bank as well as those from the Government policy. To date, Krungsri already approved soft loan totaling 21,500 million baht for over 7,000 SME customers in medium-sized enterprises (Medium SME), small-sized enterprises (Small SME), and retail enterprises (Retail SME) segments to support their liquidity. Moreover, debt payment holiday was granted to more than 28,000 SME customers, equivalent to outstanding loans of 110,000 million baht by virtue of the measure on debt payment holiday under the Emergency Decree on Financial Assistance to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Affected by Coronavirus Pandemic B.E. 2563 (2020), while the Bank’s relief measures was offered to outstanding loans of 42,000 million baht. Subsequent to the new wave of COVID-19, Krungsri has continually introduced various additional measures to mitigate the impacts and hardships endured by SMEs, which is in alignment with the government policy to support the business continuity of SMEs in the current situation.”

In a nutshell, SMEs relief measures for retail enterprises (Retail SME) affected by COVID-19 included deferment of principal payments, deferment of principal and interest payments, and installment amount reduction. Meanwhile, relief measures for medium-sized enterprises (Medium SME) and small-sized enterprises (Small SME) comprised debt restructuring, which will be provided to SME customers on a case-by-case basis and the scope of assistance will be determined based on direct and indirect impacts on their business as well as their repayment capability, and soft loans for enhancing liquidity.
