Krungsri (Bank of Ayudhya PCL) joins hands with
NETSTARS CO., LTD. one of the leading payment gateway providers in Japan, to expand the payment service in Japan through the scanning of QR code with Krungsri Mobile App (KMA) as well as the participating mobile applications other Thai banks, allowing Thai customers traveling to Japan to make easier, more convenient, faster, and more secure payments for goods and services in entering into Japan. Such effort reinforces the leadership of Krungsri in international money transfer and payment services and conforms to the aspiration to be a trusted partner for customers.

This time, Krungsri joins forces with NETSTARS, the developer of cashless payment systems in Japan, by acting as an intermediary in linking the payment systems and expanding the services to cover most leading stores throughout Japan. We plan to accelerate the expansion of services, particularly in retail stores with branch networking and airport shops which are popular among Thai people in order to make the shopping experience easier, more convenient, faster, and more secure for Thai customers. With customer convenience as a top priority, the QR payment service is not limited to the transactions made through Krungsri Mobile App (KMA) but is applicable to all banking applications of any participating banks.
Previously in 2019, Krungsri, first bank that launched QR payment service in Japan. Thai travelers could use QR code payment in “Takeya” shopping mall, also known as the Purple Buildings in Tokyo, “EDION”, a leading home electronics retailer (Tokyo and Osaka branches), and shops, restaurants, and hotels in many areas in Japan. In the near future, the Bank plan to expand the service into shops and restaurants in JR Central Towers, JR Gate Tower, and Gate Walk in Nagoya. With the newly collaboration with NETSTARS, the Bank aims to accelerate the service expansion throughout the country including Japan’s international airports.

NETSTARS provides payment services through department stores, retail shops, convenient stores, restaurants, tourist attractions, and airport shops in various cities in Japan specially the top tourist destinations for Thai people such as Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo. Fukuoka, Kyoto, and Okinawa.
The QR payment service in Japan will be applicable via various mobile banking applications in Thailand. In the first phase of service, it will start with the QR payment via Krungsri Mobile App (KMA) and will be extended to cover the mobile applications of other banks in the near future. Customers can look for the sign of ‘MyPromptQR’ at participating leading stores in Japan.
To offer greater payment convenience to Thai tourists, Krungsri and Takeya join hands in offering a special promotion from 1 December 2022 to 30 April 2023, with triple benefits including discounts and cashback, especially for Krungsri customers making bill payments using KMA.
The triple benefits for KMA customers are:
- Benefit 1 – a 5 percent discount at Takeya when spending at least 5,000 yen;
- Benefit 2 – a tax refund of maximum 10 percent when spending at least 5,000 yen;
- Benefit 3 – 5-percent cashback or up to 300 baht/person/month from Krungsri.
